Connecting with the anonymous @_sel.one has been an absolute adventure! As the @mad.house_art resident with the smallest following & one of the most out of the box, unique styles, we are blessed with the opportunity to see IMMENSE growth for this budding artist!

With deep roots in the East coast graffiti scene, Sel brings a fresh perspective & approach to psychedelic abstract painting. After meeting through @polishshoepolish with @jeremy_legge at @kind_mind_campout in 2018, I tapped into his brave explorations in expression. He isn’t afraid to try new things, combining a variety of techniques on canvas stemming from his years of tagging handstyles, throwies, & massive burners on street surfaces.

His courage on canvas is matched with his dive into Denver’s graff scene; moving to a new city & finding your place while writing your name on less than legal surfaces is a bold move, & he has quickly made a name for himself here. While completing the burner featured in his teaser video, another writer creeped & took a photo mid process, later reaching out online with his admiration for the awesome “SELS” piece whipped out in that quick session.

I am honored to be working with Sel One, helping expose his one of a kind paintings to a larger audience, & to share the inner workings of his art:

•EVERYTHING is letters... see how many you can find! This piece was titled “Satosh-E’s Conundrum”, based on the prominent letter E that forms the foundation of the composition, & our conversations about the recent cryptocurrency boom. If you think abstractly, you will find his letters S, E, & L all over this piece & throughout his body of work!

•He stacks an astonishing number of techniques that create countless layers & textures: stencil work (this piece’s stencil background is barely visible, but when it catches the light exposes a diamond grid), graff paint markers (2 more visible tags & 2 laying in a sub layer, with drips galore), aerosol spray paint used in a variety of ways (the large red arcs, the subtle white & black highlights most prominent in the top right and bottom left), tape, & more!

•A combo of loose, expressive gestures, and tight isometric linework
