“Bermuda”
Brendan Kadey
2020, 48” x 48” Oil on Canvas
Gazing into the depths of this painting feels like diving into a cool, crisp pool full of endless possibilities. Brendan created this piece after the summer of 2020 disappeared to the pandemic, as if swallowed whole by the Bermuda Triangle and leaving me wondering “What just happened?” Eyes cruise around the canvas and cognizance comes churning and bubbling back to the surface. The wave-like arcs of blue reminded me of the ups and downs and all arounds of the year, and that we were all still afloat despite the mysterious virus wreaking havoc on our minds, bodies, and souls.

Brendan explores the concept of duality painting the unique biconcave sphere which often include a void in the center. They reflect light and dark, yin and yang, good and bad. He has demonstrated a mastery of the light and dark throughout the last year I’ve had the pleasure of knowing him, using humor to handle the waves of emotions that have come, and keeping positive in the face of adversity.
