2020, 24” x 30” Oil on Canvas

Brendan @brendankadey Kadey has once again shown his mastery of the color value scale. This painting gets the dopamine and serotonin flowing using a select and limited palette: his favorite color Phtalo blue, white, and faint touches of Alizarin crimson. There is no black paint whatsoever, a surprise that affirms his incredible blending.

”Reuptake Inhibitor” is a STRONG piece that highlights a number of my favorite elements in Brendan’s unique style, and offers some fresh arrangement. The “bi-concave sphere” donut shape is a frequently visited one in his work, and is a reinterpretation of the yin and yang; a symbol of dualism invoking feelings of the balance between light and dark, and the intersection and interconnectedness of opposing forces. Gazing at this crisp and classy web of wonders, I really enjoy:

•The composition is off centered yet extremely balanced. Brendan has a tendency to lay thing out in a way that takes your attention on a leisurely stroll around the painting

•Lots of extremely smooth blends which are done primarily right on the canvas, which is soft and comforting on the eyes

•NEWish: the arrangement of smaller voids being sucked into the larger one on the bottom creates immense depth

Now that the synapses are firing on all levels and neurons are nestled into comfort, what do you love about this piece?!
